Buffet R-13 and Selmer 10G Clarinets
R-13, made by Buffet. This clarinet dates from the early 1980s. It is in excellent condition and has been well maintained. It was replaced by my Selmer 10G in 1990 and actually has been sitting in the closet until this year. In the summer of 2007, I got curious and took it out to play on it. I found that is significantly better in tune than my Selmer, so I took it in to replace some pads and get it in good working condition. I have played all of my professional classical gigs on it since that time.
10-G, made by Selmer. This clarinet dates from the early 1990s. It is also in excellent condition and has been well maintained. It has been played professionally since the time it was purchased. I think that it has a beautiful tone and it’s response is very even throughout the instrument, but I have found that it’s intonation problems have gotten worse over time. That probably wouldn’t happen on a metal instrument.
